The complete moon of the Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month is known as Sharad Purnima. Sharad Purnima is also known as Ras Purnima. It is alleged that on the nighttime of Sharad Purnima, Moon is complete of 16 arts and polishes the nectar. Therefore, a sweet is prepared that is Kheer. It is kept in the open sky in the night, and in the morning it is eaten as a feast.

Fasting method of Sharad Purnima
Fast (Vrat) is also kept on the day of Sharad Purnima. Particularly this Vrat is kept for the attainment of goddess Lakshmi. And God Dev Dut is worshipped on Sharad Purnima. Besides with the worship of God Indra and Mahalaxmi Mata Ji, the Diya (lamp) of Ghee is burnt and worshipped.
To present Kheer to Brahmins as food on the day of Sharad Purnima is considered to be very fortunate. Simultaneously, the Brahmins are provided with Dakshina. On the day of Sharad Purnima, it is believed that the moon emanates from light.
